Machang District English Funfair

Machang District English Funfair
March 23rd, 2015

The English Funfair was something quite different for all of us. It was the first time for every Machang district school to attend a TELL2 event. Due to the large number of schools, we kept the event to just Year 2. The activities were all in English, using the lessons learned in the first 4 Units of the KSSR Year 2 curriculum, which all pupils had already studied at school.

They say a picture paints a thousand words. Take a look at some of these happy faces and you’ll know that Machang district's Year 2 pupils had a wonderful time.

The teachers did an excellent job of manning the 12 different activity stations. Pupils were given tickets to play any of the games that they wanted. The event was entirely pupil-centered, meaning that no one told them where they had to go or what they had to do. They were free to choose. The catch was that they had to produce some information in English – either a phonic sound, a word or a short phrase, in order to wind a token. For every 6 tokens a pupil had won, they were able to select one of the prizes that had been provided by the PPD – a pencil case, coloured pencils or a colourful book folder.

Many of Brighton’s mentors from around Kelantan came out to help. In addition to our State Manager Toby opening the festivities, we had a musical performance by Scott and Phillip, Emmy led a round of action songs to warm the pupils up, our newest mentor Bronwyn came to help us, as did Mark and Elizabeth. Achama helped with the face painting and Niamh and Sara organised and set up most of the activities before the rest of us arrived.

We really have to thank PPD Machang, SK Pangkal Nering, DLO Mr. Hazmi and all the LINUS Co-ordinators from Machang District for helping us pull off Brighton Education’s first English Funfair in Machang.

Thank you also to all of the MTPs who attended. We hope that you gained some inspiration and new ideas to help make your classrooms a place where

"Learning English is Fun!"
