Machang District English Funfair

Machang District English Funfair
March 23rd, 2015

The English Funfair was something quite different for all of us. It was the first time for every Machang district school to attend a TELL2 event. Due to the large number of schools, we kept the event to just Year 2. The activities were all in English, using the lessons learned in the first 4 Units of the KSSR Year 2 curriculum, which all pupils had already studied at school.

They say a picture paints a thousand words. Take a look at some of these happy faces and you’ll know that Machang district's Year 2 pupils had a wonderful time.

The teachers did an excellent job of manning the 12 different activity stations. Pupils were given tickets to play any of the games that they wanted. The event was entirely pupil-centered, meaning that no one told them where they had to go or what they had to do. They were free to choose. The catch was that they had to produce some information in English – either a phonic sound, a word or a short phrase, in order to wind a token. For every 6 tokens a pupil had won, they were able to select one of the prizes that had been provided by the PPD – a pencil case, coloured pencils or a colourful book folder.

Many of Brighton’s mentors from around Kelantan came out to help. In addition to our State Manager Toby opening the festivities, we had a musical performance by Scott and Phillip, Emmy led a round of action songs to warm the pupils up, our newest mentor Bronwyn came to help us, as did Mark and Elizabeth. Achama helped with the face painting and Niamh and Sara organised and set up most of the activities before the rest of us arrived.

We really have to thank PPD Machang, SK Pangkal Nering, DLO Mr. Hazmi and all the LINUS Co-ordinators from Machang District for helping us pull off Brighton Education’s first English Funfair in Machang.

Thank you also to all of the MTPs who attended. We hope that you gained some inspiration and new ideas to help make your classrooms a place where

"Learning English is Fun!"

Lesson gone Great! at Machang 1 with Nor Amiza

Co-teaching is just plain fun!  But when it goes just right and the students really learn and have fun then that is the stuff that makes teaching GREAT!

The lesson started off good then turned exciting when we let the students turn their "answer a few questions" into a dialog they would have on a mobile using WhatsApp or Line.  They really got into it.  In the end they proudly displayed their work and celebrated the work of their classmates.

Co-teaching with Nor Amiza at Machang 1's Tahun 3 Delima...have a look.

They love their teacher!

They are really into it!

Show-offs!

A great teacher in action...a beautiful sight!

Admiring their classmates' work

Mentor Emmy with this bright bunch!

Ta-da !!!

Saturday 21 June 2014

Hello, and welcome to TELL2!

Can you believe it's June already? We certainly can't! We've had a fun and hectic beginning of the year working with our 15 fabulous schools in Pasir Puteh and Machang and as they say, 'time flies when you're having fun!'

Well I suppose the breaking news is that...as of June 14th we are finally a full cluster! :) It has been a long wait indeed.  Let me introduce myself and my team..(pics to follow)

My name is Sara and I'm the ELC for Pasir Puteh Machang Cluster.  I come from a small town in Wales, UK but for the last 2 years, Kelantan has been my home.  My 5 schools are; SK Bukit Jawa 1, SK Bukit Jawa 2, SK Bukit Merbau, SK Tualang Tinggi and SK Danan.

Our ELP for Pasir Puteh Machang 2 is the wonderful Achama Isaac from Canada.  She spent the last 6 years teaching English in various parts of Egypt and now she is mentoring in SK Mata Ayer, SJKC Poey Sit, SK Sungai Bagan, SK Pulai Chondong and SK Pangkal Gong.

Last but not least, our new arrival, the fantastic Emmy Ebanks.  Emmy has taught English in Thailand, China and Myanmar and she will fill the spot of ELP for Pasir Puteh Machang 3.  She will be mentoring at SK Ayer Merah, SK Pangkal Meleret, SK Paloh Rawa, SK Hamzah 1 and SK Machang 1.

That's it for now but there's much more to come!
